Starting Academic Year 2013-2014, May 27, 2013, De La Salle University will be implementing some changes to better improve the receiving of Inbound Exchange Students coming from partner universities:

1. Academic Calendar and Deadlines of Submission of Application Forms

De La Salle University has three trimesters in its Academic Calendar:

a. 1st trimester (May – August)

b. 2nd (September – December)

c. 3rd (January – April)

An Inbound Exchange Student can enter in any of the three trimesters. Partner universities are encouraged to submit their nominations for Inbound Exchange Students on the following days:

a. 1st trimester entry: January 30 of every year

b. 2nd trimester entry: June 30 of every year

c. 3rd trimester entry: September 30 of every year

If partner universities will not be able to send the application forms of their nominees on the prescribed deadline, they must immediately inform me and state a definite date when we can receive the application forms.

2. Application Form

An updated fillable/writable PDF version of the Inbound Exchange Student Program Admission Form have been created and are attached to this email. All parameters must be filled up especially the “Trimester to Enter De La Salle University”, “Trimester/s to attend and study in De La Salle University” and “Courses intended to be taken in De La Salle University”.

3. Attachments to the Application Form

a. Transcript of Records/University Grades

b. Photocopy of Passport

c. Letter of Endorsement of Partner University

4. Viewing of Course Offerings

A brief description of the courses can be viewed at https://www.dlsu.edu.ph/offices/registrar/checklists/default.asp

a. Students would need to click on either the undergraduate or graduate programs and to the specific undergraduate or post graduate degrees

b. Students would need to evaluate and/or discuss with their faculty/academic advisers on the courses to be taken from the list and the pre-requisite courses required

c. Students would need to choose courses from the list

d. Currently, the pages for the course offering on the specific trimesters are still being update. Partner universities can request from me the flowchart.

5. Approval of Courses

a. Students must fill up “Courses intended to be taken in De La Salle University” for each of trimester they will be studying in De La Salle University

b. The application forms of all Inbound Exchange Students will be submitted to the Vice Deans of the receiving or hosting colleges or school of De La Salle University for the approval of courses

c. Only approved courses by the Vice Deans can be taken by the students

d. Only courses offered on the specific trimesters will be approved

e. Courses to be enrolled that are not offered on a specific trimester will not be approved

f. Special Classes (classes to be opened for a trimester they are not offered) will no longer be allowed to be taken by the students

6. Thesis/Dissertation Writing

Thesis writing in De La Salle University is usually enrolled in two trimesters for undergraduate students. The first will be Methods of Research which is when the thesis proposal trimester. The second part will be the Thesis Writing and Defense. In some degrees and in the post graduate studies, it is done in three parts: Methods of Research/Thesis Proposal, Thesis Writing and Thesis Presentation/Defense.

For graduate students it is always done in three parts.

Enrolling in any of the thesis courses will no longer be allowed.

7. Maximum Allowable Courses to be Enrolled

An average load of a full-time undergraduate student in De La Salle University is 18 units or six courses carrying 3 units each every trimester. A graduate full-time student can enroll in only 3 courses or 9 units. Vice Deans are encouraging Exchange Students to only enroll in the maximum allowable courses to be enrolled. Anything above the allowable number will have to be thoroughly reviewed by the Vice Deans.

The updated Procedures and Guidelines 2013-2014 will be sent as soon as the official Academic Calendar has been received by our office. Please feel free to email me for your inquiries about this changes.
